WHO WE BE: HipHop Speaks is an outlet for the healthy exchange of social and political ideas related to the hiphop nation and beyond (as Dead Prez has stated, it is bigger than hiphop, after all), and led by activists/voices from the hiphop community. This particular program is entitled ALL HAIL THE QUEEN and the speakers will kick it on the state of women in hiphop and women's empowerment. So:

The first 32 MCs to sign up at 6:00PM can get down with this battle.
UNNECESSARY CURSING, BLATANT DISRESPECT TOWARDS WOMEN, and the EXCESSIVE use of the N word may lead to disqualification. DA CYPHA MC BATTLE is about CONTENT, FLOW, and MIC SKILLS (VERBAL CREATIVITY).

This PRELIMINARY ROUND will run 6PM-7PM. The eight finalists MUST sit through the community forum. NO EXCEPTION TO THE RULES. The final rounds of competition will start immediately after the community forum.

GIL NOBLE TO APPEAR IN NEWARK FOR RAS BARAKA

  Thursday, July 26, 2001 THE FRIENDS OF RAS BARAKA are presenting GIL NOBLE, the best known Afro-American media personality, the  well respected Program Host, of "LIKE IT IS", ABC (Channel 7’s) Flagship Black program
Mr. Noble will speak on the topic of “BLACKS IN THE MEDIA.” He will make a presentation then answer questions from the audience in an open exchange on one of the critical topics facing Afro-America today. Particularly in  light of the undemocratic nature of the National Elections and the illegitimate method by which Bush-2 gained the US Presidency.
 The firing of Tavis Smiley, long-time BET host, the crisis at WBAI,  will also be a focus of discussion. Mr. Smiley will be coming in for the Friends later this year.
The Program will be held THURS, JULY 26, 01, 7PM, AT THE MASONIC TEMPLE, 188 IRVINE TURNER BLVD, AT 7PM. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE BY WRITING OR CALLING THE ABOVE ADDRESSES.
